Working on a Computer

As we work towards empowering women immigrants in the workforce, one of the programs we offer is #WomenInCS, where our mentor leads provide essential digital skills that help one succeed both in their work environment and in their personal life. Program leads will go through topics such as Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Digital Organization, and Cybersecurity. Digital skills difficulty vary from beginner to intermediate level, made to meet everyone's individual needs.

#1

Google Suite

Made to cover multiple classes, program leads will go through individual Google Suite applications - Google Doc, Google Sheets, Google Slides, etc. Once going through a given application, program leads will hold an activity to give participants a chance to experiment with the new skills they have learned and ask questions. Knowing that participants may walk in with different backgrounds on Google Suite, the program leads will split into groups to cover different difficulty level skills.

#3

Microsoft Suite

Similar to the Google Suite lesson, this topic will span over multiple days, including different applications in the Microsoft Suite such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Program leads will go through an activity that will allow them to experiment with the skills they have recently learned. Knowing that many may walk in with different backgrounds on these applications, program leads will split into groups to cover different difficulty level skills.

#2

Digital Organization

In this lesson, program leads will cover different apps and skills that will allow participants to be digitally organized. These include going through apps like Google Calendar (Phone Calendar Apps) and Reminders, as well as skills like creating folders to store files on Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. These will help not only as participants work in their jobs, but also in their personal lives.

#4

Cybersecurity

Today's online world users need to be aware of not only the benefits to technology, but the drawbacks that come with it as well. Program leads will go through what it means to be a digital citizen and what proactive measures can be taken to protect their digital information. Participants will walk out feeling more confident and secure about their actions in the digital world.
